With the Mega Rig Pirates Ship, living rooms, backyards, and bathtubs all become places pirate adventures. Three year old loves loves loves this toy
This toy gets more action than any other in the house since it arrived three months ago. It is played with nearly every day in and out of the tub. More out of the tub actually. I can imagine that he will continue to favor this toy for a long time to come. :2011-11-22 02:33:51
Lots of fun
I bought this for my 5 year old last Christmas. He was so excited to play with the pirates and the giant octopus (which is very wiggly). He enjoys taking it apart, putting it back together, and shooting the cannons. This has become a regular bath time staple. I like that when we take it out of the tub, the ship drains out quickly and no water gets left behind inside to go sour. :2011-11-22 02:33:28
Large Pirate Ship
The size of the ship is larger than the usual toy ship. It can separate into several other smaller ships, if you want it to. The recipient loves the anchor which is attached by a cord that you manually wind up or let down; and, when you wind it up, you attach it to a part that looks like a cannon and it remains stationary. It came with a couple of pirates, a gang plank, a treasure chest and this oversized octupus which has numerous suction cups on its tentacles so the kids can make it stationary on a tile floor or even on a glass window. The octupus was a big hit. It also has 2 cannon shots which shoot out the side of the ship. Great toy for a 4+ aged child. A child's imagination can go far with this toy for many hours of play. It rolled perfectly on the tile floor and it also can be put into the water for a different type of experience. Overall, I think it's well worth the money spent! A quick warning about Frustration Free packaging
The toy's fine but Frustration Free means that it shows up in a brown cardboard box with no outside illustration at all. (Excepting the large "Mattel" logo on the outside.) If you're going to take it out and set it up you'll be fine but if you're expecting something they will get excited about as soon as they rip off the wrapping paper you may want the regular retail package.
I prefer the frustration free since that way I got to try it out in the bathtub first. The octopus is cool! :2011-11-22 02:32:43
Impatiently waiting for my son to tire of this one
I know the important thing is that my 5-going-on-6 year old loves this Pirate Ship. But I am so sick of playing Pirate that I can't wait for him to move on to something else!
I am actually thrilled that he loves this toy so much, as is the relative that bought it for him months ago (and paid, gasp, full price!!), and I have to say that I was against getting it because I thought he'd play with it a few times and then set it aside. Instead, he wants to play with it several times a week, re-enacting Pirate battles and Octopus takeovers, both in and out of the tub. While he does play with it on his own some, he enjoys it a lot more with someone else to play Good Pirate while he plays Bad Pirate.
It is really durable, goes in and out of the tub with ease, and has so many configurations it really does keep your imagination going :2011-11-22 02:32:21
The big hit of Christmas
This wasn't intended to be the big gift for Christmas, I had spent quite a bit of money on a train table and was expecting that to be my son's favorite. I was totally wrong! I even bought this toy as an afterthought, it was only $7.99 a few days before Christmas and so I just went ahead and bought it. Almost 6 months later my 3 year old still plays with EVERY DAY! It's nice that it can go in the water, and it floats and little hands can assemble it easily. It has small wheels on the bottom so it "sails" on the carpet nicely, and it doesn't have too many small parts. :2011-11-22 02:31:53
So much fun and versitile too
My son got this for his 4th birthday. As soon as it was out of the package, he started playing and hasn't really stopped since. It is great for in the tub and out too. The octopus's tenticles come off, which is tons of fun for him. His does have some problems getting the pieces snapped back together, but I think with practice it will get easier. Definately recommend this. He also got another Matchbox little pirate set with the shark. I recommend the two together-makes for a lot of imaginative play. :2011-11-22 02:31:30
Love Frustration-Free Packaging for Gift Giving
Saw some reviews of one star on this toy becuase they didn't think FFP is for gift giving? Kids aren't as impressed by flashy packaging as they are with open and play- right now!! There aren't fifty ties and plastic bubbles that cut your fingers- no hassle, no mess, and better for the environment. Plus- the brown box adds to the mystery for the younger ones. My God son lit up when that brown box was opened and.... he could play with it right away instead of waiting for 4 adults to huddle around twisty ties for thirty minutes- using skills only expert shoplifters must possess to get the silly thing out of the packaging. Thumbs up for Frustration Free Packaging!!
Also- love the MATCHBOX series with modular hookups. I'm pretty sure we'll see a Pirate Space Ship once they figure out the sets could go together. Yay for creativity! :2011-11-22 02:31:05
